If you want to live a long and healthy life one thing you have to reduce is the inflammation that is in your body. I’m talking about the more undetected type of inflammation that is quite wide spread in today's society. Cellular inflammation, this is usually caused by our hormones being out of whack and not giving off the proper signals as they are supposed to.
While this inflammation spreads through out your body undetected it can reach a state of chronic disease such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes or obesity. But don’t worry there are natural alternatives you can implement to help.
In this post I won’t get into all the foods you need to avoid (you can check out this post if you need some direction on that) or how to properly care for your adrenals instead I am going to give you a delicious recipe that you can make every night to make sure you are reducing any inflammation in your body.
But before I give that recipes I want to give some info on the main ingredient in this delicious drink, the almighty herb Turmeric also known as curcuma longa for all you sexy herbalist out there.
What is Turmeric?
Turmeric comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant. Turmeric has long been used as a powerful anti-inflammatory in both the Chinese and Aryuvedic systems of medicine. Turmeric is the main ingredient in curry spices. It has a warm slightly bitter taste.
In Chinese and Aryuvedic systems it has a long history of being a potent natural anti-inflammatory agent to treat a wide variety of conditions, including flatulence, jaundice, menstrual difficulties, bloody urine, hemorrhage, toothache, bruises, chest pain, and colic. Turmeric contains curcuminoids, which are phytonutrients with powerful antioxidant properties that fight the damaging effects of free radicals in the body.
In numerous studies (source), curcumin’s anti-inflammatory effects have been shown to be comparable to the potent drugs hydrocortisone and phenylbutazone as well as over-the-counter anti-inflammatory agents such as Motrin.
Unlike those drugs, which are associated with significant toxic effects (ulcer formation, decreased white blood cell count, intestinal bleeding), curcumin produces no toxicity.
Turmeric also Fights Cancer
There have many numerous studies showing the positve effects turmeric has fighting cancer. Curcumin has strong antixodant abilities that protect healthy cells from free radicals while at the same time inducing natural cell death in cancer cells. Studies have shown that curcumin also starves tumors from growing, by inhibiting blood flow to them. Some of the mumerous studies on how curucuma longa (Turmeric) inhibit certain cancers such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, and lung cancer just to name a few.
How to use turmeric
There are many ways to incorporate turmeric into your life. Even though the main focus of this post is to teach you to make a delicious drink with it I also want to introduce to you a few other ways.
The most common way to use it is as a condiment to your foods while cooking. When choosing your turmeric spice always choose organic.
The second most common way to use it is as a supplement. But beware because all turmeric supplements are not created equal. Make sure the turmeric supplement you choose has some sort of fat, black pepper, or ginger in it. Curucumiods the main anti inflammatory compound needs at least one of these 3 elements so that it can be fully absorbed into your body.
And the third most common way to use it in a drink. Which I will be letting you know just how to make it below.
